The University of Queensland Regional Clinical Unit and Hervey Bay Hospital Medical Education Unit joined to host the highly anticipated 2023 Fraser Coast Medical Education Awards. More than 100 attendees who came to honour the remarkable educators making a significant impact on the medical students and junior doctors on the Fraser Coast.
These awards serve as a testament to the dedication and outstanding contributions of educators who guide and support the medical aspirants. Every year, Medical Students and Junior Doctors have the opportunity to nominate their mentors in categories such as Outstanding Junior Educator, Outstanding Senior Educator, Outstanding Multidisciplinary Team Educator, Outstanding Support Staff, and Outstanding WBA Program Assessor.
More than just recognising educators, these awards also underscore the pivotal role played by the multidisciplinary teams and support staff in shaping the future of Junior Doctors. Dr. Rudi Prasad, Head of UQ Regional Clinical Unit Hervey Bay, and Dr. John Inderhaug, Director of Clinical Training HBH, expressed their gratitude for the contributions of the educators and emphasised the positive impact of a nurturing learning environment.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Medical Educator of the Year, which was awarded to Dr. Henry Watter. Dr. Watter's remarkable journey through medical education started at the UQ Regional Clinical Unit Hervey Bay, and his excellence continued throughout his career. His name, along with all the winners, will be proudly displayed on the Fraser Coast Medical Education Awards Honour Board in the hospital corridor for the staff and community to see.
