For the second consecutive year, one of our own has been recognised with the prestigious ACNN National Clinical Excellence Award.
This year, Kate McFarlane, a dedicated and exceptional clinical nurse within our neonatal unit, has been honored with this national accolade.
In a rare occurrence, two neonatal nurses were selected for this award, highlighting the outstanding contributions made by both recipients.
The ACNN Clinical Neonatal Nurse Excellence Award is a highly regarded recognition within the neonatal nursing community. It is awarded to nurses who exemplify the ACNN National Standards for Neonatal Nurses through their substantial contributions in clinical practice, education, or research.
The award acknowledges those who go above and beyond in their dedication to neonatal care, making a profound impact on the lives of the newborns and families they serve.
Maternity Unit Manager Jane Wilson said Kate is an exceptional neonatal clinician.
“Kate is the driver of reviewing and updating procedures and policies,” she said.
“She is actively involved in the consultation process around upgrading clinical equipment. Kate is one of the leads for education within the unit and mentors new staff."
Jane also highlighted the respect Kate commands within the team.
"Kate is a well-respected member of our team and is often the preferred person for guidance due to being the content expert around all things neonatal,” she said.
“She displays the values of our HHS to an exceptional level and is a strong advocate for the mothers and babies under the care of SCN.
“We are very privileged to call her part of our team."
