Cultural Opening MHIPU

Staff and community members, alongside Butchulla Elders, gathered on Butchulla Country to partake in a poignant Smoking Ceremony, symbolising the cultural inauguration of the new Fraser Coast Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Hervey Bay Hospital.

The atmosphere resonated with a profound sense of unity and healing as participants paid homage to the sacredness of the space, acknowledging its significance for those who will receive care within its walls. Aunty Ealanor led a beautiful Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.

The new mental health unit received widespread acclaim, with attendees expressing admiration for its facilities and the thoughtful design that went into creating a supportive environment for mental health care. The ceremony itself was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the mental health team, who orchestrated a truly remarkable event.

Heartfelt congratulations are extended to the mental health team for their dedication and success in organising a ceremony that not only celebrated the opening of a crucial healthcare facility but also fostered a spirit of inclusivity, cultural acknowledgment, and community support.
