Danni Stranieri
Project Consultant – Arts in Health
How long have you been with WBHHS?
4.5 months
How do you describe what you do?
I have the privilege of creating opportunities that bring joy, comfort and connection to the health service community through creative arts presence and engagement.
What’s best about your job?
The best thing about my job is I get to combine so many of the things that I love and care about into one role, and I get to work with such passionate and dedicated professionals to help turn the spotlight back onto the humans at the heart of healthcare.
What was your path into health care?
My path into health care was a very convoluted one! Prior to this role I was a high school teacher for almost a decade, teaching across both the Performing Arts and Health & Physical Education, whilst facilitating a variety of community arts events on the side. I have always been passionate about wellbeing, with a particular focus on mental health and wellbeing, and have always advocated for the fundamental role that arts engagement has in impacting our quality of life.
What does being part of a team mean to you?
Being part of a team means always having a sense of perspective, the ‘bigger picture’ or the ‘ultimate goal’, at the same time as acknowledging that every single person contributing to that team is of equal value and worth. For the ‘bigger picture’ to be the best it can possibly be, every person in the team needs to feel valued, supported, respected and heard.
When you’re not at work, you are…
When I’m not at work I’m running around after my husband and two little boys and trying to catch a nap whenever I can.
What do you enjoy about living in Wide Bay?
I grew up in Bundaberg and left straight after finishing school, determined to never return. After living in other cities, towns and countries, my husband and I returned here to raise our family, and I saw the Wide Bay through different eyes. It’s a beautiful mix of city, country and coast, and just the right atmosphere for us in this chapter of our lives.
Tell us a fun fact about you.
I can say the alphabet backwards... apparently ‘younger me’ thought that was a pretty cool party trick.
What song are you listening to most right now?
“I’m Still Standing” - Taron Egerton cover of Elton John
