How do you describe what you do?
As a Dental Assistant our role is best described to be the glue that keeps dental going. We support the Dental Operators to achieve the absolute best outcome for the community.
Historically we are employed to be a second set of hands for the Dentist. It is our job to ensure they have what they need to help the patient. However, if you ask anyone here, our absolute first priority is the patient. Sometimes they just need someone on their side to remind them that they can go through with this; to a lot of people the dental chair is a scary place and we are the best at helping them through that.
What's best about your job?
In Dental we love a good excuse for a morning tea, so the food is definitely up there in the top two reasons to come to work.
What was your path into health care?
I had spent 8 years in an admin and accounting driven career which was great until I realized I wanted to do more. I always told myself that I would build a career on helping those of the community. When I saw this position come up I thought this is for me and I haven’t looked back.
What does being part of a team mean to you?
Being a part of a team is knowing you have the support of many around you. Our team here is honestly a family. We are each other's cheerleaders when the incredible happens but also we are here to pick each other up on the days you are unable to stand alone. I am so grateful for those I get to work with everyday.
When you're not at work, you are...
Renovating... we thought it was a brilliant idea to buy another fixer upper! It was not.
What do you enjoy about living in the Wide Bay?
I love the fact that the Wide Bay is so diverse. We have some of the most fantastic beaches in the country followed up with the tranquillity of the bushlands. We love to camp and honestly some of the best places we have been are in our backyard.
Tell us a fun fact about you.
We live on a hundred acres with one horse, one dog, one very spoilt cat and 16 sheep.
