Hervey Bay recently welcomed Executive Director of the Queensland Health Office of Research and Innovation Professor Julie White as part of her commitment to fostering connections with researchers in regional and remote areas.

During her visit, Professor White met with members of the WBHHS Research Consumer Advisory Group (RCAG).

This dedicated group plays a vital role in shaping health research by providing valuable feedback on design, methods, and dissemination, ensuring that research outcomes align with community needs.

A key focus of Professor White’s visit was sharing her vision for the future of teletrials in Queensland, with particular emphasis on aged care and mental health services in regional, rural, and remote areas.

She highlighted the potential for teletrials to improve access to innovative treatments and clinical trials for people who might otherwise face geographical barriers.

RCAG members also shared their local knowledge and experiences, offering insights into the unique health challenges faced by the Wide Bay community.

Group member Elizabeth Vella said Professor White was very personable and refreshing to talk to.

“When meeting with her she was grounded and had a sensible approach to the way she related to us," she said.

“As a group we were very grateful for her time and found it easy to talk to her about issues.

“She made us feel valuable and was genuinely interested in a consumer perspective.

“I enjoyed that she gave us insights to how the research system works from a government perspective."
