The inaugural Welcome to the Fraser Coast Dinner went down a treat, with more than 60 people making new connections while enjoying a delicious three course meal.

New Fraser Coast residents, many of whom had moved from overseas, came together at the Hervey Bay Community Centre for food, conversation and an introduction to the region.

The event was hosted by the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) and food prepared by The Wandering Teapot Social Enterprise.

It was made possible through the generous funding from Workforce Australia, brought together new health, emergency services, and education staff with the aim of building connections and creating a sense of belonging in their new community.

Community Engagement Officer Natalie Rice said the event was about more than just professional introductions.

“There was a real focus on creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie,” she said.

“Attendees were welcomed by local community members, who hosted tables and facilitated meaningful conversations.

“This intentional seating arrangement allowed for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and valuable insights, laying the foundation for future collaborations and friendships.”

After the huge success of this event the HBNC are already planning more in the future.
