A networking lunch to celebrate World Social Work Day brought together social workers from the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service and the community.

Social workers from the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service and the community, gathered to celebrate World Social Work Day recently.

Held on March 18, this is a key day that unites the profession in advancing a common message globally.

This year’s theme, ‘Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing’, highlights the vital role of connection across generations in building resilient societies, sustaining our environment, and passing on wisdom for a better future.

At Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) our dedicated social work team marked the occasion with a networking lunch, bringing together social workers from both the hospital and the community.

This gathering was an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contributions of social workers and reinforced their commitment to supporting individuals and families in times of need.

Social work in health assist staff, patients, families, and caregivers to overcome or address barriers to access healthcare.  They help navigate complex health journeys, ensuring that individuals receive the care, resources, and advocacy they need. Their work extends beyond the hospital, linking patients to essential services, supporting transitions back home, and addressing social determinants of health.

Social workers within WBHHS have provided an incredible 255 years of combined service, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

Linda, Director of Social Work Bundaberg, shared her perspective.

“My job as a social worker is to help people consider their choices and help them with what choices they have,” she said.

When asked what motivated her in this role, she added she felt a deep sense of fulfilment in helping people to be the best they could be.

On World Social Work Day, we recognise and celebrate the compassion, dedication, and expertise of our health social workers.

Their work strengthens the bonds between generations, fosters enduring wellbeing, and ensures that no one faces life’s challenges alone.

Let’s take a moment to thank our social workers for the incredible difference they make every day!
