When Renata took a holiday photo of the banksias on K’Gari, she never imagined it would end up brightening a patient room.
Now, her image is one of the many staff-submitted photographs featured in the Maryborough Hospital's new Subacute Older Persons Mental Health Unit (SOPMHU), creating a more welcoming and homely environment for those on their healing journey.
“This picture was taken at K’Gari whilst on holidays with my family,” she said.
“I just love the banksias on the island.
“I was honoured when my picture was chosen, and I love how it looks in the bedroom.
“It makes the room feel homely and like a beautiful, calming area.”
SOPMHU Nurse Unit Manager Aden Muller said the initiative aimed to bring a sense of warmth and inclusion to the space.
“We wanted staff to feel included in the unit,” he said.
“This becomes home for our consumers while they are healing, and having familiar, locally captured images helps create a comforting atmosphere.”
The project highlights the powerful role that art and community play in supporting mental health recovery.
The Mental Health team thank all staff who contributed their photos.
