Several aged care residents at Mundubbera Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) can look forward to improved living conditions with four rooms and two ensuites currently undergoing upgrades.
Wide Bay Hospital and Health Board Chair Peta Jamieson said the $577,000 project, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, would help provide a more homelike, comfortable environment that supports the residents’ daily independence and dignity.
“This is one of three projects that will be delivered in our Wide Bay region under the Australian Government’s Multi-Purpose Services Program Minor Capital Grant Opportunity,” Ms Jamieson said.
“Eidsvold and Mundubbera MPHSs will also benefit from minor capital works in the coming year or so, which will range from simple improvements such as gardens and pathways, to refurbishments.
“The Board is thrilled with Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service’s (WBHHS) success in securing grant funding of almost $1.4 million across the three facilities, and we also offer our sincere thanks to our local Community Reference Groups for their assistance is supporting the applications.”
WBHHS Chief Executive Debbie Carroll said it was important to provide an environment that encouraged aged care residents to live as independently as possible and be supported to live with dignity.
“Two ensuites will be fully refurbished to improve accessibility, which will include a new shower, basin and toilet, grab rails, joinery, fixtures, fittings and lighting,” Ms Carroll said.
“Existing swing doors will be replaced with sliding doors and widened, which will be of great help to our patients, particularly those who use mobility aides, along with our staff who care for them.
“Four bedrooms will also receive a fresh coat of paint and other improvements including new vinyl and lighting, and we’ll be constructing a new storeroom for the storage and charging of medical equipment.”
Works began in June 2023 with the first two bedrooms and attached ensuite now completed, the second stage is currently underway on the next two rooms, ensuite and storeroom.
The project is funded under the Australian Government’s Multi-Purpose Services Program Minor Capital Grant Opportunity, with WBHHS required to contribute at least 20% of the total project costs.
