Bundaberg Community Care Unit (CCU) is unveiling a unique art initiative, a mural called the Hope Tree, which is set to grow and evolve over time.
Located in the reception area of the CCU, this mural will serve as a symbol of hope and recovery, providing an opportunity for residents, staff, and families to connect through art.
The Hope Tree mural will be led by Peer Worker Mark Terry, a former professional sign painter and mural artist, whose work can be seen on murals throughout the Bundaberg area.
Under his guidance, residents will add leaves to the tree, each leaf containing a message of hope and recovery.
As time passes, the tree will become fuller, representing the continuous journey of growth and healing within the community.
The project is designed to engage all current residents of the CCU, encouraging participation in various forms.
The initial mural painting took place over Mental Health Week, but the project will continue indefinitely, as new leaves of hope are added.
This innovative initiative marks a first for the Wide Bay Mental Health and Specialised Services, bringing a fresh approach to community engagement and creative expression at the Bundaberg CCU.
