Bundaberg’s Cruisin’ 4 a Cure car club has brought a wave of hope to local families dealing with cancer.
After discovering the children’s book Isabella’s Grandma, written by oncology nurse, Kerrie Hepworth, club member Jade Law was moved to take action.
The book provides young readers with a gentle introduction to cancer and its treatment, helping children understand the difficult journey ahead when a loved one is diagnosed.
Jade, inspired by the potential of the book to support local families, rallied the club to raise funds in order to distribute more copies within the community.
The club, known for its year-round fundraising efforts through cent sales, car runs, and meat raffles, quickly mobilised to purchase 50 copies of Isabella’s Grandma.
These books will be donated to Bundaberg’s Cancer Care Unit, the Children’s Ward, and several local primary schools, where they will be used by Guidance and Wellbeing Officers to provide emotional support to children and families facing a cancer diagnosis.
“It was amazing to meet Kerrie and have her join us for the book handover,” said Jade Law.
“We know these books will help ease the burden many families face when a cancer diagnosis hits.
“It’s our way of giving back to the community and supporting those who need it most.”
Partners in Care, Kathy from the Cancer Care, Cherie and Chris from the Educational Precinct, and author Kerrie Hepworth all joined at Bundaberg Cancer Care to accept the donations.
Cruisin’ 4 a Cure members said they were grateful to the community for its ongoing support, which made the initiative a reality.
By distributing these books, the club aims to bring comfort and understanding to families across Bundaberg, continuing their mission to make a positive impact through their dedicated fundraising efforts.
