Eric Choong

Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

How long have you been with WBHHS?
Since May 2024

How do you describe what you do?
I work alongside the Orthopaedic team in helping to assess, investigate and manage patients with musculoskeletal conditions referred to the hospital orthopaedic service. The aim is to make a major contribution to patient care, reduce waiting times, optimise non-surgical interventions and free up orthopaedic capacity to manage patients with more complex symptoms and conditions.

What’s best about your job?
What motivates me is working in partnership to develop and support new and innovative ways of meeting the growing demand on our orthopaedic services.

What was your path into health care?
I don’t really know! Growing up I imagined I was going to play cricket for Australia or make do with being a physiotherapist. Of course, I was rubbish at cricket.

What does being part of a team mean to you?
I think team working is crucial in how we develop an organisational culture and a shared sense of purpose, focused on improving patient outcomes. We are all in this together.

When you’re not at work, you are…
At the gym or acquainting myself with the local mountain bike trails.

What do you enjoy about living in Wide Bay?
The beautiful climate.

Tell us a fun fact about you.
I was born in Malaysia, educated in Australia and naturalised as a British citizen.

What song are you listening to most right now?
Bros by Wolf Alice.
