Hervey Bay Hospital staff and members of the public had the opportunity to learn more about the new modular ward being constructed at Hervey Bay Hospital at a pop-up stall on 11 September.
Around 30 people, including 27 members of staff, visited the stall at the HBH Cafe, and took the opportunity to get their questions answered directly by the project team. Those who attended the session had plenty of questions for the pop-up team, with many sharing positive sentiments toward the modular building’s exterior render and floor plan, noting that it differs from typical ‘demountable’ structures.
Preliminary establishment works for the project began onsite at Hervey Bay Hospital last week, with stage 2 of the project on schedule to begin in November, pending site works and weather conditions.
The new modular medical ward will provide 24 new beds for Hervey Bay Hospital, and will create 60 new full time jobs for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. It will operate as a general medical ward, and will connect to the main building by an enclosed walkway to seamlessly connect to the hospital, surgical ward, improving patient flow.
The building modules are already under construction offsite, and will be delivered and placed on site during stage 2 of the works.
