Background
We're investing over $100 million to upgrade and expand Hervey Bay Hospital across several projects.
The upgrade includes:
- more inpatient beds
- moving our intensive care unit
- a new rooftop helipad
- more car parking.
The upgrades will increase the capacity of our hospital. This means we can provide more specialist health care services to our community. It will also help us care for more patients who need medical or emergency care closer to home.
Jobs
As we grow and finish our upgrades, we'll need new staff members to join our team.
We'll have jobs across all areas including nursing, medicine, allied health, pharmacy and business support.
You can search our vacancies or register your interest for future jobs when our hospital upgrades open.
Why we're expanding
The Fraser Coast is one of Queensland's largest growth areas. We're expanding Hervey Bay Hospital to make sure we meet the needs of our community, now and in the future.
We've planned the expansion based on:
- the health service needs of our community
- information about our population and expected growth
- speaking with our patients and community
- advice from builders, engineers and design experts
- feedback from our staff, nurses, doctors and clinical experts.
What we're building
New 24-bed medical ward
We've opened a new 24-bed medical ward at Hervey Bay Hospital.
The new unit is a modular building that was built offsite and installed at Hervey Bay Hospital. It has helped us quickly increase our capacity and provide more patient beds
It includes:
- 24 beds including single rooms and shared rooms with bathrooms
- nurses' station, allied health treatment room and connected link to our main hospital building.
New medical ward, relocated intensive care unit and rooftop helipad
As part of the Capacity Expansion Program, we're fitting out the second level of our emergency department building to include:
- a new 25-bed medical ward and relocated intensive care unit
- nurses' stations, medicine rooms, utility rooms and staff rooms.
On top of this, a new rooftop helipad is being built. This means patients can be transferred directly from the roof to our emergency department or intensive care unit.
Car parking
To help with parking, we're building a larger car park for staff. This will help to free up parking spaces for patients visiting Hervey Bay Hospital.
Timeline
The timeline and dates may change.
2024: Building started on 24-bed medical ward
2024: Building started 25-bed medical ward and relocated intensive care unit
